By Myself I’m A Soldier

Meet debut  author Alechy Sumter who is in possession of a raw talent that she shows off effortlessly in her debut novel “By Myself I’m A Soldier”. Kindred Soul had a minute to ask Alechy some questions and she delivers in such a manner that makes you want to see what readers are in store for. Not only is a dope author she is a dope woman.

Readers can expect relatable life experiences in my books. I write about things that have impacted me i

When did you start to write?

Alechy: I honestly didn’t begin writing until I was forcefully sat down. At 26 years of age I was sentenced to 10 years on drug conspiracy charges. Time spent idle has a way of playing with your thought process and coping mechanisms so instead of losing my mind or taking my frustrations out on others I wrote.

What inspires you the most to write?

Alechy: Circumstances and pressure pushes me to write. For myself, its therapeutic. The ability to allow my words to take me to another place mentally genuinely stimulates me to write.

What are five of your favorite books?

Alechy: A Piece of Mine by J. California Cooper, A Day Late and a Dollar Short by Terri McMillan, anything by Donald Goines, anything by Ca$h, Midnight by Sista Souljah, there’s too many to mention.

Ambitious. Resilient. Strong Willed!

What can readers expect from reading your book?

Alechy: Readers can expect relatable life experiences in my books. I write about things that have impacted me in one way or another. My characters are multifaceted and dimensional. All who go through things that we humans do but hide. Through my words, readers get to experience some of the ills I’ve been faced with. The hardships I’ve endured.

Why did you choose Kindred Soul Publications?

Alechy: I choose Kindred Soul Publications because I wanted to form a relationship with the individuals that understands and recognizes my vision. Kindred Soul Publications does that. Drusilla and Stephanie work hand in hand with their authors. I love that. I can always make contact them without having to go through a middle man. I’m fortunate to have signed with women who are focused on the quality of works they represent verses quantity

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Alechy: In five years I see myself on multiple bestseller list, writing full time while enjoying the fruits of my labor. The sky is not the limit. It’s only the view.

What genre do you write?

Alechy: I write urban novellas. Stories that represent the perils of “ghetto” America.
If you could talk to your younger self, what advice would you give her? To stay true to myself and not put others before me. If it doesn’t taste right to spit it out. Life will teach you some of the harshest lessons. Those lessons will sting and be tender to the touch, but you’ll heal. The only person that you’ll ever be better than is the person you were yesterday.

Describe yourself in three words.

Alechy: Ambitious. Resilient. Strong Willed!

Is there anything you want the readers to know about you?

Alechy: I’m an open book. I no longer live my life in fear of what others will think of me. This version of myself now is a shadow of who I used to be. Cuddle with me, talk to me, get to know me. The best is yet to come.
